For us, the bespoke process is best exemplified by the jacket.
Each Paolo Martorano jacket imparts a distinctly formal air without sacrificing ease and comfort — whether cut for a classic business suit or a more casual sport coat — and reflects generations of the Martorano family legacy as fine bespoke craftsmen.
A tailor’s signature is his shoulder. The Martorano shoulder is relaxed and serious at once: soft enough to move in all day, sharp enough that the room takes you seriously. Our clothes exude timeless elegance, never foppishness.
This experience is about you.
Our signature shoulder requires little to no padding, allowing maximum range of motion and a natural, masculine line.
Our point of view on bespoke is simple: the garment should flatter the wearer. We don’t impose — we educate. We spend more time saying no, and explaining why, than we ever do selling. A client who understands why a lapel sits where it does, or why a cloth will or won’t serve him, is a client dressed for decades, not seasons.
Our fittings are working sessions, not theater — each one exists to see the garment come together before it is finished. This is the highest level of make, and it cannot be rushed.
No matter the style, our jackets will always be sewn by hand. The collar, chest and lapels are padded by hand; the wool body canvas is blended with mohair, 100% horsehair, and stable 100% cotton domette, and the collar canvas is crafted with firm Irish linen — all in the service of creating a properly structured silhouette.
A first commission begins with a conversation, not a tape measure. We discuss how you live, what you already own, and where the garment will work for you — then select cloth together from the finest English and Italian mills. Over the following weeks, through a series of fittings, the jacket takes shape on your body and yours alone. Most clients find the process as rewarding as the garment.
